CURRICULUM

1

Module 1: Brand Development

One of the essential steps to starting a streetwear company is market research. You have to define and then target the customer you want to sell to.

2

Module 2: Trademark

Having a sense of ownership for the name of your company is the key ingredient to branding. Why put in all of the efforts to building a company if you don’t own the name of the company?

3

Module 3: Product Development

We start to develop a visual image for your line by pulling tear sheets (photos of products in the marketplace that reflect the mental image of your line) to work on a mood board.

4

Module 4: Tech Packing

Tech packing applies when only making cut & sew items. This is the process of making your merchandise from scratch. This art is the main part when you design your line.

5

Module 5: Marketing Research

As discussed in the product development module marketing is key for your line. Its importance lies in understanding your customer and reaching them.

6

Module 6: Sales

This is where the rubber meets the road. Sales will determine if you got the first five steps correct. Your product is well received by retailers and consumers.

7

Module 7: Tradeshow

This is the last area covered by mostly all big streetwear companies. We should mention that wholesaling your clothing line has two phases.

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS

Mentees Success

Mentee Sam Fish started his project with the name LEAVE. After mentoring Sam through the Cultivators curriculum, Sam took Roland Felix’s, a mentor, advice and named his project EXIT INTERVIEW. Sam also obtained the knowledge on how to develop his line using PLM software supported by Backbone PLM.
Photo of Giovanna Santiago and her line Salut
Salut by Giovanna Santiago was a project that was selected by the mentors due to her project having a non-traditional approach to streetwear. The mentors took her project from “concept to closet” with the advice of our cultivating fashion expert Peter Paul Scott.
